Frequently Asked Questions

The garlic in the jar turned blue! Is it dangerous?

Since the cucumbers are pickled in a vinegar brine, the solution is acidic. Under these low pH conditions, odorous compounds in garlic (allicin) can react and cause the garlic to turn blue. This is a natural chemical reaction and perfectly safe to eat. It does not affect the taste or quality of the pickles.

Do you need to refrigerate sour pickles?

Yes. These are fresh, vinegar-pickled cucumbers and should always be stored in the refrigerator at 0–4°C.

How long do the sour pickles last?

If stored in the refrigerator, the pickles will stay fresh for up to four weeks from production. If consumed soon after they are made, they will taste more like fresh cucumbers. The longer they sit in the brine, the deeper and more pronounced the flavor becomes. Either way, they are delicious!

Where are your pickles produced?

Our pickles are produced at Eldstæðið at Nýbýlavegur 8, Dalbrekkumegin, 200 Kópavogur.
